Testimonials from parents
I would like to share a few thoughts in respect of your sterling efforts for the tennis programme.
I have been very impressed by the organisation of the programme. The pre-selection was conducted sensitively. We had very complete information for our first session, including a series of photos directing us exactly to the training site. We had friendly reminders before each session, and a lovely series of photos of the sessions after each session. I particularly appreciated that the photos were sent in two batches - one featuring the coaches' demonstrations in a group photo, and a second batch sent just to us featuring our son. This level of planning and organisation is not easy, and is very time consuming. This has been truly excellent.
Each session has been tremendous. A lot of thought has been given to making sure there is sufficient support and engagement for our son. There was a volunteer shadow for each participant, and in addition, there was a therapist onsite to intervene and guide. This was very helpful. Also, the arrangements were very open, friendly and facilitative. I particularly appreciated that I was allowed to be present (without interfering) just so that I could help ensure our son could re-engage when he needed more specific direction. It is the kind of help a parent can give, and this was accommodated with good grace and understanding.
I would like to reserve special praise for the coaches. Coach Jason is so perfect for this initiative. He is enthusiastic, imaginative and so bright and friendly. He was exceptional in sparking the interest of our son, and I could see that he adapted his approach with each child. He is a very gifted coach and an excellent human being. His fellow coaches have all been exemplary in engaging the children, and developing some fun exercises. I was also very happy with the progression in the sessions. Each week featured different exercises, each with a novel aspect and with gently increasing difficulty.
It was nice to see how some elements were specially adapted for the children's needs - with a clear plan for each session on a whiteboard with ticks against them as tasks were completed. The children were so comfortable in this environment.
Tennis is a good sport for children with autism to learn. There is an element of being in your own space, but at the same time it is an activity that requires play with another person. There are good skills in respect of hand / eye co-ordination. It is an active sport, which is great as our son has so much energy!
In terms of feedback, I don't think you need to change that much at all. The location is very convenient for us. The group size is very good. I would not increase the size to more than four, and even at that I thought the session with three children was the best. I can understand the need to devise a schedule that allows coaches a break, and perhaps a rotation. However, it all worked so well, I don't have much to share in respect of possible improvements.
Many sincere thanks for including our son in this programme. I know he enjoys the sessions. He is happy on a Sunday morning to get ready and join you all. We speak about each session, and he has responded with interest and enthusiasm. We really do appreciate all your hard work and effort.
Good morning,
Thanks for organising this special program for our kids. We appreciated so much on all the arrangements. Jayden loves the lesson so much as he is willing to skip his most favourite Japanese TV program on every Sunday morning.
Also all coaches and big bros are so patient to our kids. 👍🏻
Jayden would definitely like to continue. 😃
